Leybourne Grange Hospital
DDS have successfully secured and commenced a contract with TaylorWimpey Development to carry out the asbestos removal, demolition and site clearance of the former Leybourne Grange Hospital in Leybourne, Kent.
The Grange opened in 1936 and was a huge site covering 270 acres, housing up to 1,000 patients in villas scattered across the site.
There is a large boiler house to the North of the site, which fed heat and power through approximately 3,000m of ducts to over sixty buildings across the site. The boiler house and ducts along with the majority of the buildings contain a large amount of asbestos. In conjunction with the ecological contracts and the main demolition, the asbestos will be removed over a five-month period.
Due to presence of bats throughout a large number of the buildings, the main demolition works will be sequenced over a two-year programme to accommodate the bats hibernation and maternity periods.
